Schedule Ruth for: A School Visit

Ruth loves to read from A Watch in the Night, to talk about what went into writing it, and to discuss the unique life that her grandparents, mother, aunts and uncles lived. Whether you have a group of students, or simply a group of book lovers, you can arrange to have a reading and even a signing event at your location in Southern Ontario.

A Watch in the Night is a great read for boys and girls from Grade 5 up.

When Ruth comes to your Southern Ontario school, she can dramatize passages from the book, talk about the process of writing, take questions and have discussions with your students. A writer since childhood herself, she is excited about encouraging young people to read and write, and to take an interest in their own family history (which is the inspiration for this book).

Ruth will be happy to speak to individual classes, or large assemblies of students. It depends upon your school’s needs. If your school has a projection screen and an LCD projector, Ruth will bring her slide show of photos from the book. If there is a sound system, she will accompany her talk with a CD of Maritime music.

If you wish, Ruth can arrange to bring books to your school for a special signing event. The suggested retail price of A Watch in the Night is $19.95 CDN, but it is available to schools at a special price of $15.00 CDN.

Like most Canadian authors, Ruth receives very little income from the book, so a fee for her visit is desired. Her main aim, though, is to share the A Watch in the Night experience with your students. She will be happy to talk about what your students need and what your school can afford. We will find a way to make a special visit happen.

The Canada Council offers funding to groups wishing to host author readings. Click here to find out how your group can apply.
